About Relm

Relm is an applied research and advisory initiative focused on improving financial decision-making through behavioural science.

At its core, Relm exists to address a persistent gap:
while access to financial services has expanded and financial education has improved, many individuals still struggle to make decisions that support their long-term financial wellbeing.

This gap is not simply a matter of knowledge.
It is shaped by psychology, system design, and the moments in which financial choices are made.

Relm works at this intersection.

Why Relm Exists

Financial decisions rarely occur in ideal conditions. They are often made under time pressure, emotional stress, limited trust, or incomplete understanding — within systems that were not designed with human behaviour in mind.

Yet many financial literacy initiatives and policy responses continue to assume that information alone is sufficient to drive change.

Behavioural science tells us otherwise.

Research consistently shows that decision-making is influenced by context, framing, defaults, and lived experience. Financial capability is not only learned — it is practised, reinforced, and shaped over time.

Relm was created to help institutions engage with this reality.

Our Approach

Relm applies behavioural science and behavioural economics to financial literacy, inclusion, and policy-relevant challenges.

Our work is grounded in the 3M → Movement framework, which explores how:

  • Mindset shapes confidence, trust, and engagement
  • Money systems influence behaviour through design and complexity
  • Moments of choice shape capability and character
  • Movement translates insight into practical, sustainable action

Rather than treating behaviour change as an individual responsibility, Relm focuses on how environments, policies, and systems can be designed to support better decisions.

What We Do

Relm collaborates with organisations across government, finance, education, and the third sector to:

  • Design and evaluate financial literacy programmes
  • Conduct applied behavioural research and diagnostics
  • Support pilot studies and policy experimentation
  • Translate evidence into actionable insight
  • Build organisational capacity in behavioural thinking

Our work prioritises relevance, rigour, and real-world application.

A Collaborative Model

Relm is not a traditional consultancy, nor a purely academic centre.

It is designed as a collaborative space — bringing together practitioners, policymakers, researchers, and institutions to test ideas, learn from evidence, and improve outcomes.

We believe meaningful change happens when insight is shared, assumptions are challenged, and learning is iterative.

Looking Ahead

As financial systems continue to digitise and complexity increases, the need for behaviourally informed policy and practice becomes more pressing.

Relm aims to contribute to this shift — not by prescribing solutions, but by helping organisations ask better questions, design better interventions, and build systems that work for how people actually make decisions.

Let’s Talk

Relm is currently open to collaborative research projects, pilot studies, and advisory partnerships.

If you are interested in exploring how behavioural science can strengthen financial literacy, inclusion, or policy design, we welcome the conversation.
